Nashville. Your first thought may be fried chicken, sweet tea, and biscuits and gravy. While this isn’t too far off, there is more to Nashville than traditional Southern fare. From Broadway to 12 South, this country music capital is a foodie’s dream. We stopped here on our cross country road-trip and had some unforgettable meals.
Breakfast – Biscuit Love
From fried chicken biscuits to sausage gravy, Biscuit Love is the expert! With a modern take on these fluffy classics, it is quintessential Nashville. Try the bonuts (their famous biscuit-donut hybrid) or Civil War era drop biscuits. As always with foodie favorites, there is often a long line.

Brunch – Josephine
For the trendier, hipster side of Nashville head down to 12 South. This avenue is full of fine dining and cute boutiques. Josephine is right in the mix of things and has an atmosphere and menu that’s basic and bougie in all the right ways! Benedicts, brussels, and mimosas are just a few highlights of their trendy American provisions.
Lunch – Hattie B’s Hot Chicken
A Nashville staple, hot chicken is a must have and Hattie B’s is the best! Try to go on a weekday or an off time because the line is out the door. The chicken heat level varies from southern (no heat) to “shut the cluck up” so there is something for everyone. Even the medium is pretty spicy but the flavor is divine! Grab some pimento mac n’ cheese or collard greens for a traditional side dish.

Dinner – Rolf & Daughters
Rolf & Daughters is perfect for an intimate date night or a big group. The communal style tables create a fun dining atmosphere and their pasta and craft cocktails are heavenly. Reservations recommended, especially on weekends.
Dessert – Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams
Jeni’s rivals San Francisco’s Salt and Straw when it comes to unique flavors. The best part is you can order a trio to try 3 scoops! Yum. Lavender and salted peanut butter were our favorites.
Or for drool-worthy donuts check out next door’s Five Daughters Bakery. But be sure to get there early, they close when they sell out and we missed them! It has a very similar vibe to Mr. Holme’s Bakehouse.
Drinks
The Patterson House – This speakeasy style lounge is primely located on Nashville’s Music Row. The Patterson House is perfect for a pre-dinner craft cocktail or a nightcap. The menu is extensive but everything we tried was great!
Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge – A Nashville institution, Tootsies is always full of tourists, locals, and live music! Be sure to check out every level and while the drinks aren’t anything special the atmosphere is what it’s all about!
Acme Feed & Seed – With one of the best views on Broadway, head to the rooftop for a yummy frozen cocktail by day or a dance party at night!
Nashville is becoming increasingly more popular and I’m sure their restaurant scene will continue to grow. Grab your boots and check it out, your tastebuds will thank you.
