Buenos Aires Nightlife, Wine, and Cocktails Guide

Buenos Aires is a city that doesn’t sleep. Well not during “traditional” hours at least. They sleep in, take late afternoon siestas, dine at 9pm, and then its time to dance. The nightlife scene is big and it is a class act. We went to several different places all with a unique vibe and were all around impressed by this city’s libations.

Where to Drink in Buenos Aires

Boticario Bar

Neighborhood: Palermo

I loved this place. It has an old apothecary vibe mixed with the jungle. Creative drinks and DJs make it extra fun!

Bar 878 (Thames 878)

Neighborhood: Palermo

This was recommended to us by a local. What it lacks in unique atmosphere it makes up for in yummy drinks. A nice spot to get your night started.

Pan et Vin

Neighborhood: Palermo

This wine bar is great! Evenings are more crowded, it was only us mid-day! The tasting is really good and includes homemade sourdough bread.

Valk Taproom

Neighborhood: Palermo

Who knew Buenos Aires had a craft beer scene?! Valk is in the middle of Plaza Serrano and is surrounded by similar brew pubs. We sampled their beers and snacked on salchipapas.

Casa Cavia

Neighborhood: Palermo

Casa Cavia is all class. No detail is ignored in this beautiful outdoor garden. They have a great cocktail and cigar menu plus fancy teas and fur blankets you can use if chilly.

Bar du Marche

Neighborhood: Palermo

Before our anniversary dinner we stopped in Bar du Marche for a wine and cheese pairing. We were the only people there because it was 7pm but the tastings were great and we discovered one of our favorite wines here. The price was on point as well as $10 per tasting. The service was subpar but I suppose that’s just the porteño lifestyle.

1989 Brewery

Neighborhood: San Telmo

This American style restaurant-brewery is a good place to chill and catch the Boca Juniors game on one of their many TVs.

Florería Atlántico

Neighborhood: Retiro

This cocktail bar is super cool. You enter through a flower shop then go downstairs to a nautical-themed bar. The cocktails are craft and the bathroom is really cool too!

Kika Club

Neighborhood: Palermo

This is the one nightclub we visited while in Buenos Aires and it was pretty much like any other nightclub in the world. It was fun but definitely a late night younger crowd.

Yauss Club

Neighborhood: San Telmo

This no-frills spot is in the heart of San Telmo. It is great for beers and snacks before a night out.

Doppelgänger Bar

Neighborhood: San Telmo

We were the only people there when we visited. I am telling you the porteños get started late! The drinks were delicious but what made it was our bartender! He was so great and fun. Ask for Ariel. Practice your Spanish while he practices his English and try one of his latest creations. You can check out his Instagram here.

Parque Bar

Neighborhood: Palermo

With swing seats and fun décor, this bar attracts the young and trendy porteños from Palermo. We went for a special 70’s themed event hosted by our bartender from Doppelgänger.

Sheldon

Neighborhood: Palermo

Sheldon is a big venue with a fun late night vibe. Swing in for a cocktail when in Palermo.

Tango in Buenos Aires

Tango gets its own nightlife category. There are fancy dinner tango shows you can go to for about $100 a head but we decided to go with a more authentic interactive experience.

La Catedral Club

Neighborhood: La Crespo

There weren’t many people when we were there but it was still a lot of fun. Ladies, you will get asked to dance often and you should accept. It was a fun way to get a free tango lesson!

Maldita Milonga

Neighborhood: San Telmo

Our Airbnb host recommended this one and it was so impressive. We had a table between the dance floor and the stage and tango experts and novices alike tore up the floor while the band (more like an orchestra) played amazing music. It was a full on show and well worth the $10 cover.

Other nightlife options we didn’t make it to but would have liked to are Rosebar, Victoria Brown, and Uptown. It wasn’t for a lack of trying. The hours everywhere are weird.

Buenos Aires has quite the nightlife scene and if you can keep up with the porteños then you are in for a treat!
